Family experiences in Campanarios de Azaba

This summer, spend a week with your family in the Dehesa de Salamanca (Spain) and discover this ecosystem through a lot of nature activities and games.

Welcome to a natural and wild place: the Dehesa. A Mediterranean forest of centennial trees, aromatic lavenders and elegant peonies among the songs of birds and the beauty of butterflies. The maintenance of this pasture is carried out thanks to the domestic animals of breeds in danger of extinction, such as the Sayaguesa cows, the horses of the Retuertas and the black Castilian sheep… The great herbivores have played a fundamental role in the formation and conservation of the Mediterranean ecosystem. The landscape that surrounds us will surprise us with different trees such as holm oak, ash, gall oak or oak tree and with plants such as lavender or wild rose, among others. We also have the possibility of finding birds such as hoopoes or flocks of blue-winged birds flying around us. Looking up we will observe the flight of vultures, storks and red and black kites. And among the branches of the flora of the reserve will be the fox peeping or the boar drinking in the pools.

These weeks of coexistence we want the participants to discover a unique ecosystem through a program full of different and fun activities in nature. Learning by playing is the best way to get close to nature. Discovering the species that make up the great ecosystem of the dehesa and their work within the environment is essential to preserve it in the future.  Therefore, the fundamental objectives of Environmental Education that the Fundación Naturaleza y Hombre, organization that manages the Biological Reserve Campanarios de Azaba, wants to transmit in this environmental immersion are:

  • Bring the participants to a unique ecosystem such as the dehesa.
  • Encourage active observation of the world around them.
  • Introduce concepts such as Ecosystem, Sustainable Development or
  • Biodiversity.
  • Encourage active, dynamic and participatory learning.
  • Promote habits and values of respect for nature and others.

Thanks to the conservation project developed by Fundación Naturaleza y Hombre for more than a decade, the Campanarios de Azaba Biological Reserve is a renatured Mediterranean forest. One of the points with greater biodiversity at international level, which also has the declaration of the first Entomological Reserve in the country. Attending to these weeks of nature you contribute with the conservation work of Fundación Naturaleza y Hombre.

We have many activities for both adults and children to enjoy and learn:

  • Educational workshops.
  • Cultural and sports excursions in natural environments.
  • Educational games.
  • Wildlife observation from hides.

It emphasizes the work in group, where the collaboration and the contribution of each participant in the activity is fundamental. The workshops are focused on nature, the knowledge of the environment that surrounds us such as the Mediterranean forest and its conservation.
